When I first heard this song from Katy Perry, I was underwhelmed to say the least. My response was “meh”… here we go with “Waking Up in Vegas” again. I feel I can say that, because I was wrong.

The video is out for “The One That Got Away” and it seems that, while I first thought the song was an easy grab at all people who have ever broken up before… so that’s, like, everyone?, it really does tell a story. It’s a good watch, and I’ll put money down that you’ll probably watch it 2 times at least.

If you’ve ever been whale watching, you know that it is an awesome experience. If you haven’t, basically… you pay to go in a boat, ride for a long time with a bunch of strangers wondering if it was worth it. Then, all of a sudden out of the dark water rises a creature that you grossly underestimated the size of. Struck with awe and a little adrenalin, it was worth it and you want more. And you want it now.

We don’t need to get into the philosophy of the power of mother nature, but much the like the power of a hurricane, a whale can crush you and your boat in a second. On the other hand, it’s apparent that the peace and gentleness of a sunset can also be represented by mother nature’s creatures. Grace is a good word for the whale. Crazy is a good word for the Kayaker in this CNN video who decided to introduce himself to a blue whale

Barbie gets Ink’d

My wife’s good friend has a few tattoo’s… and I have 1 very strong opinion about tattoo’s. They’re not for everyone. They either look great, or terrible. In this case, they fit and look good.

But we had a discussion about it as we hung out at the Carstairs Pumpkin Festival (don’t judge, it’s fun!). See, they were doing temporary tattoo’s for the kids. So, the inevitable question is… “what do you say to your kids about tattoos?”. The response was simple “I’m screwed”. Hopefully she can at least get her kids )(2 girls and a boy) to wait until they’re 18 or so before getting their own.

Looks like it’s going to be a more difficult battle afterall. Barbie has tattoos now… I wish “Good luck” to my parent-friends with tattoos.

Puppy’s a Basket Case

I love cars.. it’s very true. With technology changing so quickly, how do you decide on a new car? Speed… look… fuel economy? Nope. Accessories!

This little guy (inset image) is an accessory for the all new Scion IQ… a cute little urban commuter from SCION. In Calgary, Country Hills Toyota sells Scion products now. (not sure if they have this car yet… or when it’s arriving)…

Here’s what you’ll need… your own dog (small one preferred), and an IQ (Scion, that is). And don’t forget to add in a small sprinkle of Panache. With a puppy-basket, who is the “Smart” car now? iQ.

Adele Someone Like You Video

It seems like the entire world is waiting for this video from Adele. Adele says this song was written when she was extremely lonely. Which is very different and completely opposite a place she was emotionally in when she wrote “Rolling in the Deep”. While Rolling In The Deep was a song about “taking on anything”, Adele says that someone like you is lonely, and a point when she was “on her knees”. The video is very lonely, and ends confused. This could definitely be the video of the year.

I also learned one other thing about Adele… she’s a smoker, as seen in an interview about Someone Like You.

iPhone 5 Release Date!

If you’re like me, you’re anxiously awaiting the iPhone 5. I tried to wait the gap from the 3G to the 5… but I just couldn’t do it anymore! (whatsapp was TOO slow! I’ve got friends to chat with people!). Now, I have an opportunity to offload my iPhone 4, cuz it’s really not that great.

Oct 4 is the release date for the iPhone 5, but the big question is when can we buy it? I have some inside scoop on the release dates, but it’s confidential, and all I can say is that it IS expected to be in October. YAY!

Disney wants to blow your mind…

My wife and I were talking about our kids, because we realized what their perspective was. My 5 year old daughter knows how to run the PVR… and she was watching live-tv, but trying to fast forward through the commercials. It was so frustrating to her that she had to watch them!

Children love the iPad. It teaches them to play smart, to read, to write, to sing and the list goes on. While my son loves his Thomas the Train table to play on… this might trump that. Disney has come out with Cars toys that interact with the touchscreen of the iPad. Drive the car, make the engine noise… all great for the imagination. But this… this is amazing.

Kids go bad at school?

Kids go to school, and they change. A LOT! As a parent, I do openly take the blame for the stupid things my kids do… I mean, they probably learned it from me. But once they’re in school, they learn other kids bad habits, and it’s hard to take. Do they hate school? Or is it something else? Quite possibly, (for my kids age) something else going on. Mean kids, scary bus driver… but it’s most likely not the teacher!

Phone lost in the toilet

To be noble, or not to be noble… that is the question. There are a few things in this world that (reportedly) harbor massive amounts of germs… the keyboard I type this on, is one of the biggest. Escalator handrails are also bad. Your washcloth in your kitchen sink is one of the worst! I can let go of those ones for some reason, this one, I just can’t.

We all know toilets (especially the ones at work) are really not overly clean… and your cell phone is definitely one of the dirtiest items in our lives. Combine the two, and I’m out. There is no way I can handle being a kind person. This is the blackberry I found in the men’s room at our KooL 101.5 broadcast building downtown Calgary. Life Rule – you can find your own phone when you leave it in the toilet.
